Please make reservations at least two weeks in advance. For optimal learning, we recommend limiting groups to 50 visitors or less with one adult chaperone provided for every 10 students.

If you have an interest in 19th century history, enjoy sharing your knowledge, like to help with research, have a knack for working with children, have talents in working at and helping plan major events---then the staff at the Dr. James Ford Historic Home would like to speak with you. Volunteer opportunities are available for docents, interpreters, researchers, educators, and special event workers. Each year the number of visitors increases at the home and each year the need for more volunteers increases as well. The hours are flexible, the work is interesting, and the reward can be great. If you have the time to commit to helping us share the story of 19th Century please fill out the information below and submit it. The form can also be downloaded and mailed to : You may also call to set a time to speak with the director with any questions at 260.563.8686. Please note that if you are accepted into the volunteer program, we count on you to help run our house museum. You will be valuable to our success and we will rely on you and your commitment to help further our growth and outreach. All volunteers are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per year.
